Sturdy, but how to attach cable?
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This locking box seems well made, and the foam does not have a strong odor. We are pleased with it except for one thing. We can’t figure out how to secure it with the cable. The larger loop will not fit over the lock receiver (the packaging says to slide it over the “lock receiver”) inside the box, and we see no other place to attach it. Can someone please describe in detail how to secure the loop inside the box, or provide a customer service number?
There is no contact information on the cardboard sleeve, the only packaging from the manufacturer. Also, the picture on the sleeve shows a small locking receiver inside the box, but ours is two inches wide, too wide for the loop to fit over the whole thing. We tried looping it around the lock (the part the key goes in), but the loop fell off. It also moved the position of the latch, resulting in the box not locking with the key. We were able to fix this, but we’re taking off a star. It moved out of position very easily and could be a problem in an emergency.
Because of that, we wouldn’t advise keeping it locked when you want a gun quickly accessible, or recommend it for securing a loaded gun from children. This box should be useful for securing a gun or small valuables from sticky fingers or smash and grabs. It has two holes in the bottom so it could be attached to a shelf with screws or bolts.
The metal is heavy for a box this size, and it seems a good value for the price. However, we may have to return it if we can’t find a way to secure it with the cable. We would appreciate knowing how others are attaching the cable loop inside the box. Thanks
Will raise the review to 4 stars if we can find a way to use the cable.
Great safe..smelly inside
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I got the safe very quickly and found it to be very secure. The only thing is that it had a very strong smell of mothballs on the inside. I’ve had it for about 3 weeks and have been airing it out in my garage. Overall, a great product but just disappointed by the smell.
Buyer Beware JUNK!!

Upon receipt of item I opened the box to get the keys, I tested the key cylinder then shut and locked the box. That was the last time I saw the inside of the box. I tried using pliers to turn the key, as well as manipulating the box lid to try and free the latch. I sent the box back bent key and all for a full refund. I guess it’s better that it failed upon initial inspection rather than during an emergency situation.
Great small secure case for travel or general purpose
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Constructed of steel with a matte black finish, this case complies with TSA requirements for traveling with a firearm. It also functions well when traveling across state lines that are not gun friendly. There is foam padding that keeps the gun secure and from sliding around.
I have tried this case with a full sized Para Ordnance P-14, 45 ACP, Glock 23 (40 Caliber S&W), Glock 27 (40 Caliber S&W), a Ruger SP-101 2.25″ 357 Magnum and a Ruger GP-100. The full sized guns fit in a diagnonal configuration. The accompanying coated cable keeps the secured case in place. Useful applications with the cable include securing your case to a night stand, under the car seat or even in your closet. 2 keys are supplied with the case.
Not only would this serve as a great storage safe for pistols but is helpful with traveling and a soft deterrent is desired to secure certain items.
For the price and the wide applications, I recommend considering this type of case.
Nice case!

I was looking for an inexpensive locking case to satisfy firearm transport requirements thru states that do not recognize a Michigan CCW license. In the case of this particular case, it’s size is suitable for my Kimber Ultra Carry CDP (.45 caliber), and it’s locking mechanism is adequate to satisfy the requirement for locking the weapon down apart from the ammunition Any common criminal could easily defeat the lock of they were trying to steal your gun, so be forwarned, this is not a gun SAFE. It’s a locking transport case. All in all, this case is cost effective for what it’s designed to do and I would heartily recommend it.
Ideal car safe
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I needed a handgun safe for use in my car and read the Secure-It Handgun Security Safe reviews on Amazon.
In brief, most buyers were pleased with this product (9.5 x 6.5 x 1.75″) and I ordered it on the Amazon site.
It arrived today and meets all expectations. It was shipped with 2 keys and a security cable with two looped ends.
One minor problem—the foam liner has an unpleasant odor which defied soap and water in the washing machine.
I called the manufacturer and spoke to the VP, Tim, who solved my problem. He is sending me replacements for my memory foam liner.
This is the way legitimate customer complaints should be handled. I wish I could award more stars to this product and its manufacturer.
Perfect for Car or Plane
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I live in a state with liberal conceal carry laws, but travel weekly into a neighboring state that is the worst in the union for civilian conceal carry, so I needed a fast, effective way to secure my handgun when I cross the border to stay within the law.
This is a lock box, plain and simple, made of decent guage thickness steel. It comes with two keys and a strong but thin cable for you to secure it, temporarily, in your vehicle. Having said that, someone with cable cutters would only be slowed a little if they knew where it was and wanted to get it. They’d have a harder time getting into the box itself than cutting through the cable, but since I’ll be using this only to satisfy the law in Illinois (oops, I said it…Illinois, get your act together!) I’ll never be too far from my car anyway. If you chose to, you could mount it permanently somewhere in your car with screws instead.
While reading about the product elsewhere, I discovered as a bonus that this box meets FAA regulations for transporting a firearm in checked baggage – something else I can see myself doing down the road.
Size-wise you’re looking at it holding a standard size automatic pistol and an extra magazine. That’s it. It wouldn’t hold a Desert Eagle or any other oversized pistol, but any Glock (or similar-sized gun) and most revolvers with under a 6-inch barrel will be fine. It will easily fit under a seat, in a wheel well, etc., and the cable is very easy to attach and gives you added flexibility with respect to where you put it.
For the price, it can’t be beat.
Only one “stinking” problem
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I would have given this one 5 Stars except for one thing. The dang thing smells something awful when it’s open. The “memory” foam, which by the way has no memory at all, just plain smells. It’s hard to explain, it’s a cross between animal pee and moth balls. I’ve tried soaking the foam in soapy water, using Fabreeze and leaving the pieces out in the sun. No dice. If the box last as long as the smell does, I’ll have it for a long time. I eventually replac the foam and moved on.
That being said, the unit itself is sturdy and well built. Very good deal and decent price. Shipping was a bit high. You can find it in many gun shops for cheaper without the shipping. So if you are not in a hurry and frequent a range or gun shop, they will probably have it for less.
nice work

This item is just what i needed. I traveled through Delta airlines and needed to transport my pistol. The thing i loved the most about this item is that i could secure it to the inside of my luggage!!! Some people say this item is cheap and weak. Not true. WEll it might be true only if you compair it to a $500.00 in house safe, but thats not what this is. This is a simple safe box that secures to a solid place to deter someone from stealing it. Yea the foam smells bad, I put mine in the dryer with no heat and a softner sheat and in 3 minutes it smelleed GREAT! Very satified with my purhcase. If you want a safe that is going to survive a fire… then pay the 500 plus and dont complain about this AWSome safe box!
Satisfactory – Is Accurately described.

I keep this in my car, for use whenever I have to leave my gun in the car for a very limited time (e.g., when going into the Post Office). It’s far more secure than simply leaving the gun in the glove compartment or trunk, but I would still never trust it for longer than a few minutes – perhaps for a few hours in a well trafficked place. I took the advice of another reviewer, and keep the box under a front seat, setting the cable it came with looped around the seat support. This keeps it safe from a simple smash and grab, where the perpetrator has no cable cutter. The box is relatively strong, but is quite compact and, I’m sure the lightweight cable can be cut fairly easily, allowing the box to be removed to a separate location where it could be opened by brute force. I haven’t bolted it to the car frame, because I need to use it among several vehicles.
The case is No larger than it needs to be – for example, it will hold a compact pistol comfortably with additional magazine.
I do NOT recommend this safe for storing a firearm which might be needed quickly (e.g. for home self defense against a break in). The key is finicky and binds in the lock – not a problem when storing for later unhurried retrieval, but possibly deadly if you’re trying to gain access during an emergency.
